The history of Baccarat
Baccarat has its origin in Italy where a similar game was played with Tarot cards as far back as the middle ages. The game spread across Europe and eventually became very popular in the upper classes of the French aristocracy, were it was called "Chemin de fer". Changes in the rules and the way the game was played were made over the years but "Chemin de fer" is very similar to the modern form of Baccarat that is played in casinos in America today.
But Baccarat actually didn't come to America from France. Instead the journey started in Great Britain and via South America this classic card game reached the casinos of Nevada in the late 50s.
After the introduction in the legendary Dunes casino the interest in Baccarat has grown and it is today without any doubt one of the most popular casino games. Players from all over the world come to Las Vegas to try their luck at the Baccarat tables. And of course, a lot of people nowadays are playing Baccarat on the Internet.
